Four Atholton JV Wrestlers win County Championships!
- Saturday, February 18 - Atholton had 4 JV Wrestling County Champions at the Howard County JV Championships. Taking home the titles were Eric D’Amico at 132 lbs., Ben Fisher at 138 lbs., Jay Chung at 145 lbs. and Grant Echols at 189 lbs. This had to be a first in Atholton history that we had 4 JV Champs. Ben, Jay, and Grant will be competing on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the District V JV Championships being held at North County High School in Anne Arundel County. Way to go Gang Green! Good luck to those advancing to Regionals!
Strong Showing by Atholton Varsity Wrestling
- Atholton’s Varsity Wrestling Team placed 6th at the Howard County Tournament Championships at Oakland Mills over the February 18 weekend (with only 9 out of 14 weight classes represented in the tournament). Pat Mullens at 145 lbs. was Atholton’s County Champion, with Matt Fields placing 3rd at 182 lbs. and Ashton Stennett placing 4th at 152 lbs. Philip Frazier (126 lbs.) and Jay Johnson (132 lbs.) placed 5th, Duk Shin (138 lbs.) and Emilo Altamarino (160 lbs.) placed 6th., and Payam Sodjehie (285 lbs.) placed 7th. The Varsity team qualified 5 wrestlers - Pat Mullens, Ashton Stennett, Emilo Altamarino, Matt Fields, and Payam Sodjehie - to the State 3A-4A Regional Tournament. Wrestling will start Friday and end Saturday at Wilde Lake High School. The top 4 place winners in each weight class will advance to the State Championships the following week-end at the University of Maryland at College Park.
Atholton Ice Hockey Team Advances to the State Playoffs
- The Atholton Raiders Ice Hockey Team topped the Marriotts Ridge Mustangs 5-2 in the Howard Conference Finals (Howard Cup) on Friday, February 18th, at the Columbia Ice Rink. This is the first Howard Cup in Atholton's history and its the first time they advanced to the State Playoffs. The Raiders are seeded the #1 Team in Maryland and received a 1st round bye. The Raiders next game will be Thursday, February 23rd, at The Gardens Ice House (TGIH) in Laurel vs. the winner of the Walt Whitman-Walkersville game (Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 5pm at TGIH). If the Raiders win Thursday, they will advance to the State Finals on Monday. Come out and cheer on the Raiders!
Basketball Playoffs
- The Girls’ Basketball Team will host Hammond High School at AHS on Friday, February 24 at 7:00 pm.
- The Boys’ Basketball Team will host the winner of Northeast-Stephen Decatur at AHS on Tuesday, February 28 at 7:00 pm.

Saturday Mornings with Nick Campanaro
- Starting in early March, our players will have the opportunity to train with Nick Campanaro. The Saturday 10 am sessions will concentrate on Speed, Combine and Conditioning drills, building on many of the concepts the athletes work on during the week in the weight room. Please contact

Lady Raiders Win Three in a Row!
- The AHS Lady Raiders finished the regular season on Thursday, February 16, with their third straight victory in a decisive win, 52-20, against Wilde Lake on Senior Night. Seniors playing in their last regular season game included Michelle Hart, Emily Patillo, Brianna Tinkle, Alex Fodel, Amy Weinberg, Adriana Vitagliano, and Jackie Palmer.
- On Tuesday, February 14, the AHS Lady Raiders Varsity team spoiled the Senior Night for Mount Hebron on their home floor with a 47-43 upset victory. Mount Hebron came into the game confident after recent wins against previously undefeated Glenelg and 3rd place Oakland Mills and built an early 12-2 lead over the Lady Raiders. The Lady Raiders trimmed the lead to 23-21 at the half. The Lady Raiders knotted the score at 23 early in the 3rd quarter and there were 10 lead changes in an exciting second half with the biggest margin only 4 points. Senior Jackie Palmer led the Raiders with 17 points. Junior Hannah Keating added 10 points and had several key defensive rebounds late in the game. The Lady Raiders play their final regular season game on Thursday night at home against Wilde Lake on Senior Night.

Attention Spring Athletes
- Try-Outs for Spring sports will begin March 1, 2012. Anyone interested in trying out for a spring sport must have a concussion test. New information regarding concussion testing is now posted on the Try-Outs page along with guidance regarding the required Try-Out forms.

Graduating Raider Football Players to play at the College Level
- As posted on the Atholton Raider Nation Facebook page: The following Atholton Raiders will attend college and play football at the following schools next year: Kenny Thomas (Penn); Paul Federinko (Lafayette), Ean Katz (Maryland), Brian McMahon (Maryland), Steve Whiting (THE Bowie State), Austin Tennessee (Concord) and Ian Wadell to Wagner.
